The area to enter your promo code on Hotels.com’s website is actually quite hard to find, so we created a quick help guide (with pictures!) so that you don’t miss it.

    1. First: select your hotel, travel dates and room type.
    2. Next you’ll see a whole page where you can enter your name, address, and payment information. On the right hand side, underneath your hotel’s subtotal, you’ll a link that says: “Apply a Deal or Discount“. Click on that link.

    3. Then a promo code entry field will pop-up. Paste your chosen coupon code in that field and then click on “Apply”:

    4. You’ll know the coupon code has taken effect when the discount comes off the total cost of your booking:

    5. After that, complete your booking as you normally would, and you’re done!

    A Brief History of Hotels.com:

    hotels.com coupon codes

The company that eventually became Hotels.com actually started out as a phone reservation service called the Hotel Reservations Network (HRN), which was started in 1991. In 2001 the original founders sold the company to USA Networks Inc, which also bought a controlling interest in Expedia. Then in 2002, the HRN renamed itself to Hotels.com. Expedia was spun off as its own independent company, taking Hotels.com with it. And there you have it: Expedia and Hotels.com are owned by the same company!

Most Popular U.S. Cities, According to Hotels.com:

This year Hotels.com published a study that ranked the most popular domestic destinations for U.S. travellers. The top 5 cities? 1) Las Vegas, 2) New York City, 3) Orlando, 4) Los Angeles and 5) San Diego. The most popular international destinations for U.S. residents? London, Paris, Toronto, Rome and Vancouver. I was surprised that two Canadian cities made the top five destinations, but I guess it is a much shorter trip up to Canada!

You can read the complete findings at Travelpulse.com.

    Hotels.com Hotel Price Index:

For the past 11 years, Hotels.com has been publishing a twice yearly review of actual prices paid by its customers at hotels. The index measures what people actually pay, instead of the advertised rates, and then compares them year by year to measure trends from around the world.

What are the notable changes for this year? Latin America and the Carribbean are experiencing a massive surge in their HPI index numbers.

You can see the Hotel Price Index here.

    Hotels.com Around the Web:

Hotels.com Facebook Page – Following Hotels.com on Facebook is highly recommended. They frequently post quick videos checking in on their mascot, Captain Obvious. They also have cool factoids, and just a generally funny and relaxed approach to social media. Plus they also post sales and promotions, so that you won’t miss out on any amazing deals.

Hotels.com Twitter Account – Hotels.com’s official Twitter account is okay. It has lots of travel tips, but they are so basic that I’m not sure if they are trying to emulate their mascot (Captain Obvious) or not. In fact, a much funnier Twitter account to follow is the official account of Captain Obvious.

    Hotels.com on YouTube:

Hotels.com has a sweet YouTube page where you can watch all of the humorous commercials they have made with Captain Obvious. They also have some other added content, including Captain Obvious and others taking the Ice Bucket Challenge from last summer.
